Parameterized Clique on Scale-Free Networks

چکیده
Finding cliques in graphs is a classical problem which is in general NP-hard and parameterized intractable. However, in typical applications like social networks or protein-protein interaction networks, the considered graphs are scale-free, i.e., their degree sequence follows a power law. Their specific structure can be algorithmically exploited and makes it possible to solve clique much more efficiently. We prove that on inhomogeneous random graphs with n nodes and power law exponent γ, cliques of size k can be found in time O(n) for γ ≥ 3 and in time O(n exp(k)) for 2 < γ < 3.

متن کاملCorrelation Analysis between Maximal Clique Size and Centrality Metrics for Random Networks and Scale-Free Networks
The high-level contribution of this paper is a comprehensive analysis of the correlation levels between node centrality (a computationally light-weight metric) and maximal clique size (a computationally hard metric) in random network and scale-free network graphs generated respectively from the well-known Erdos-Renyi (ER) and Barabasi-Albert (BA) models. We use three well-known measures for eva...
متن کاملFast Algorithm for Finding Maximum Clique in Scale-Free Networks
The maximum clique problem in graph theory concerns finding the largest subset of vertices in which all vertices are connected with an edge. Computation of such subset is a well-known NP-hard problem and there exist many algorithms to solve it. For our purposes we created an algorithm specially targeted for solving this problem in scale-free networks, where many significant search improvements ...
متن کاملScale Free Properties of Random k-Trees
Scale free graphs have attracted attention as their non-uniform structure that can be used as a model for many social networks including the WWW and the Internet. In this paper, we propose a simple random model for generating scale free k-trees. For any fixed integer k, a k-tree consists of a generalized tree parameterized by k, and is one of the basic notions in the area of graph minors. Our m...
متن کاملNumber of cliques in random scale-free network ensembles
In this paper we calculate the average number of cliques in random scale-free networks. We consider first the hidden variable ensemble and subsequently the Molloy Reed ensemble. In both cases we find that cliques, i.e. fully connected subgraphs, appear also when the average degree is finite. This is in contrast to what happens in Erdös and Renyi graphs in which diverging average degree is requi...
